At the OMB hearing we learned that the Jane and Sheppard Library might close throughout the construction process that was expected to take approximately 1.5-2 years. The closure of the library would mean less available library resources to the community including computer facilities, book requests, study space, community programs, leisure, browsing and would undermine literacy in the area. In a ‘priority neighbourhood’ the effect of a library closing is far more adverse than in the average community. The closing of Jane and Sheppard Library would be a major setback to the community.

Although halting development at 1900 Sheppard West Ave is unlikely, SWNA hopes that the letter will draw political attention to the ongoing neglect of our community. The letter that has already been mailed to John Tory, Dalton McGuinty, Blair, Julian Fantino and Mario Sergio is reproduced below.

Following our meeting Sunday, December 3, 2006, SWNA will continue to hold monthly meetings every second Sunday of the month between 5 pm and 7 pm at the Northwood Community Centre on 15 Clubhouse Court in the Boardroom. The meetings will continue for the rest of 2007 or until further notice.
