Notably absent from this release is Toronto's 69th homicide, widely covered in the media. In Toronto Star, in an article published December 27 under Henry Stancu's signature, a witness is quoted as saying: “I can see the dead body from my window. I haven’t told my children, and I don’t want them to know,” said a mother of three youngsters, who lives in a townhouse adjacent to Edgeley Park, off Driftwood Ave., near Jane St. and Finch Ave. W. People walking along a footpath called police after seeing a man’s body on a slope in the green space behind the Driftwood Community Centre around 6 p.m. The victim, a man in his 20s who was shot in the chest, was pronounced dead by ambulance paramedics.
In this particular release, the most troubling incident seems to be an armed robbery that took place at Jane & Sheppard on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 3:40 hrs: "The victim was waiting at the bus stop when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect produced an exacto knife and took the victim's cell phone and cash."
Earlier, on December 15, 2006, at about 5:55 p.m., police were called to the area of 10 Turf Grassway after a report of a shooting. After investigation, it is alleged that two boys were shot by an unknown man. One victim was shot in the forearm while the other was shot in the shoulder. Neither of the victims was able to provide a detailed description of the person or persons responsible for the shooting. The investigation is continuing.
